Repo Man vs Repo Men

Ok this is pissing me off. I am a huge fan of Repo: The Genetic Opera. Love it, awesome movie. Haven't seen it? Go watch it..I'll wait...Wasn't it awesome?! But now, like a few years after that movie, there is this rather boring looking movie called Repo Men coming out that looks like it just stole the whole main idea of repossessing human organs from Repo. I for one am boycotting this movie! Repo The Genetic Opera is my fav movie and in time I believe will become a cult musical classic much like how Rocky Horror Show was. Does this bother anyone else that they are so blatantly ripping it off? Or am I the only one that has seen that movie?

Well, Repo Men is based off of a book that came out after the Repo stage show, so some ripping off is being done. They shared a studio in production!
If the names sound familiar to some people, there's a old cult movie called Repo Man. Not about organs, though. The indie maker was going to make a sequel recently called Repo Chick. The film people doing Repo Men got antsy, since the owned the Repo Man rights at the time. So they took a shelved movie that shared said production studio (called Reposession Mamba at the time) and turned it into Repo Men to hang onto the rights.
Confuzzled yet? EDIT: io9 explains it better that I just did:

I'd agree, but my curiosity makes that impossible. I'm certainly not supporting it with cash like I did with Repo! though.

REPO!=Awesome!
Repo Men=thing I need to satisfy curiosity about. This'll most likely be like Alien Versus Hunter was, as Shyanne so delicately put it, total shite,
(Footnote: I'm on my first ever Ubuntu session right now! Looks awesome! Now to get it to work on my piece of crap laptop.)

I just saw the trailer for Repo Men. Since I've never seen either one, may I ask how they differ?

Here's the trailer for Repo the genetic opera.

Like the title, it is an opera and is quite stylish and entertaining.

Well, I can't say for sure how they differ since one isn't out. I assume the more general plot bits are different and that Men isn't sung.
Actually, now I want to see a Repo Men dvd/Blu-Ray featuring a "musical version" of the movie and slapping Repo! on. I'd lol.

Hmm...I understand where you're going with this, but to be honest, I didn't like Repo! The Genetic Opera as much as I thought I would. I remember when I first heard about it and really only wanted to watch it because of Darren Lynn Bousman, from Saw II-IV. It didn't hurt that I was a fan of musicals too, but when I finally got the chance to watch it, I just expected so much more that wasn't granted. I didn't like Alexis Vegas (or whatever her name is) and the stylish part you're talking about didn't reel me in either.
Repo Man seems to be cutting out the music, the exagerated dark and light colors, and everything I pretty much didn't like from the musical. It's looks alright, and I'm a fan of Jude Law, so the only thing that could possibly go wrong is the story. I also don't think its a rip off either, and that the two are connected somehow. If it was ripped off, court would have been the direct legal issue dealt with a long time ago.
So far, I respect both films for what they are. The Genetic Opera was unique, but whatever the filmmakers were trying to get across, it wasn't happening for me. The new one does not look like "shite" yet, so we'll just have to wait and see.

I was about to voice my opinion about how Repo! TGO didn't look appealing to me because (to my earlier knowledge) I thought it was a foreign film, (from looking at just the cover of a DVD) I thought it was going to be one of those gory and disturbing as hell and so low budget that it would be a crappy movie or not understandable, and (after hearing it was an musical) I'm not a big fan of musicals with the exception of the Lloyd Weber version of Phantom of the Opera and Sweeney Todd.
...takes getting all the facts and finally watching the actually trailer for Repo! TGO to convince me it looks interesting
(...and Anthony Stewart Head is the Repo Man singing!? )
As for the current Repo Man coming out I...don't know. This is the first that I'm hearing about it possibly being a rip off of the TGO and seeing how I know nothing more about it I can't comment on that yet. Either way, I'll see Jude Law's version if I have the chance. Otherwise I can wait until it comes out on Blu-Ray this summer.

I'm all for renting Repo Men at a video store, since it gives funding to the
store
not the filmmakers.
So, when it comes out on DVD, I shall rent it, watch it, and form an opinion around it. Hopefully I can try not to bias it along REPO! TGO.

All I heard about this thing was stuff involving Repo! but as for reviews, it looks like Repo Men is a stinker like everyone figured it would be.
I figure I'll eventually get around to watching Repo! The Genetic Opera though.

heh, yeah well, it wasn't that great.
Well, let me put it this way. I went into the theater yesterday with an open mind, as always, and was expecting something pretty good from a Jude Law fronted film. Well, it played out like any other Jude Law film, and would have been pretty good had the writers not decided to just give up on giving the film a proper ending (those who see it will probably know what I mean (seriously, where the freak did THAT ending come from?)). So instead of being okay or pretty good, it became not so good.
BTW, this movie defines NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. I was squirming around at a high level in this more than anything Saw or any other torture related films could get me to, and I don't usually get squeamish on these kind of movies.

The trailers looked pretty good, many people have made the comment that it is very similar to Repo! TGO, but many people said that it was awful so I'm not going to waste my $7 to see it. (At least until it's on DVD). While I haven't see Repo TGO, it seems great, but some of the music doesn't always seem to great. I love rock, but not some of the styles of music seem great. The idea is a great one, and is an interesting way of showing how corrupt companies can be in a very exaggerated way.
