Why did you/want to be a furry?

Recommended Posts

Simple Question.

Simple Answer.

I really want to be a furry because I find that being human is just really stupid! As a furry you freedom and self confidence of what you are/were ment to be.

:facepaw:

Because it's fun. Simply that. But no, being a human is not "stupid". Saying something like that is, though.

As a human, you have the ability to say things that make sense.

Since I could remember, I have always dreamed of having the ability to transform into animals. Many years later I came to find the fandom and I just fit right in. I feel like I belong here.

I always wanted to be a furry, because I think it would be a great experience to transform into a furry.

When I was a young child, I often played with my younger sister that I am a wolf or another animal and I liked it.  :)

Honestly. I ask myself this once in a while, and the answer is always different, so I just chalk it up to "I really don't know."

I don't really know either... I guess it's because I like the variety, the roleplay, the people... It's all good stuff. ^^

as far as i am concerned i have always been a furry, i felt apart of me was animal and when i stumbled onto the fandom i just felt at home. being a furry shouldn't be something u do just because its cool, its gotta be apart of who u really are, just like being bi or gay, u dont actually choose to be one, u just are

Hehe, I'm not exactly sure it's that I wanted to be a furry.  A while back a friend of mine told me he was a furry, so naturally I had to figure out what 'furry' meant.  I googled the term and found plenty of answers, some positive, some negative, but I found it was extremely difficult to find just one definition.  From there, I started talking to other people who identified with the term, and found that many of them were very open-minded, ambitious individuals.  Odd as it might sound to some, I consider myself a 'furry' because I've enjoyed the company of other people who consider themselves 'furry' for a good four or five years now.  I'm sure there's more to it than that, but I don't know what else it would be.

I suppose the question is harder to answer for some than others, considering there are so many different ways to define what makes someone a furry.

Well i know i'm bound to have a negitive look on me after this but in honesty what first got me interested in the fandom was yiff.  First encountered it on an image board and from there on i learned bit by bit more about the fandom.  After a while, i started looking the community and ended up joining it because i enjoy open minded communities. Im a former catholic, now a paegan, which i get plenty of hate for as it is, and the fandom is one of the groups i can be myself in.  And another reason may be my obsession with foxes.

There aren't. It's just some people think there are, and that makes a bruise on the fandom's face.

A "furry" is either an anthropomorphic (human-like) animal or a person who likes such anthro-animals. Period.

Only if you like anthropomorphic animals, you can call yourself a furry.

Asserting you have an animal soul or whatever makes you a theriantrope / otherkin, not a furry. (While hating humans makes you a misanthrope)

Being fond of animal* porn makes you a zoophile, not a furry. *(regular animals, not anthro)

kinda got sucked into it by concession the webcomic, found FA though that and i allways had a fascination with animal since i got like 4 feet from a wolf the the age of 6, (man i was stupid) so after a while i came up with a fursona and somehow ended up here.

The reason for me is not because of porn, or hating humans (Yes, I love my life as a human) but the reason for me is because I like how the animals take on human personalities and act human. It's better because it has to do with animals and I love animals especially the wolf. I found out about furries when I talked to my friend who was one. Then I searched them up, found out about the fandom, and was so interested that I wanted to join.

I just like the art.. I'm not really too involved with many other 'furry communities'.. I mostly just joined this site for the hypnosis side of things.

That's around about it for reasons with me in terms of 'being a furry'.

Isn't this thread horribly necro'd and in completely in the wrong section?

It would have been kinda handy if you'd reported it then because yeah, it's being horribly necro-d again and it is indeed in completely the wrong section...

I can't really recall, it was definitely a process, I'm pretty sure if just happened. I always like the concept, and when I learned what a furry was, I forget how, I just kinda started to become a furry on my own. I never really decided one day I was going to become a furry, it just happened.

Well, for me it started out with the late late show: The Wolf Man with Lon Chaney, I Was a Teenage Werewolf (with Michael Landon), and other similar movies.  I dreameed about being bitten by a werewolf and turning into one ... a wolf or sometimes another cool animal like a jaguar.  Then I found the books of myths that my parents had bought for my older brother and read all about the sexy man/animal hybrids -- centaurs, satyrs, minotaurs, tritons, etc. -- of Greek and Roman mythology and the half-animal gods/goddesses of Egyptian myths.

Then I discovered fandom.  I found all these cool sub-fandoms where guys bonded with animals (examples: Pern, Valdemar).  I found all the kewl art.  I can't put together a costume to save my soul whatefver that is), though.  I discovered the worship of my favorite gods, demigods, and heroes wasn't dead.  I had been praying to them;  I made it "formal" when I became a pagan.

Meanwhile I've been having almost daily dreams of turning into various animals.  Wolves and other canids seem to be most prevalent, though other forms -- snakes/naga, winged man-forms, and mermen (not Ethel) -- and deities -- like Raven -- made appearances.

Having dreams that seem more like Spirit Quests -- in one, at least ten sprirts showed up to say "hello" as I was inducteed into a tribe -- just made me more certain of my path.

I know all about feeling out of step with those around me.  I'm gay ... pagan ... tattooed ... and a few other fringe elements.

I had been forced away from fandom for a long while needing to take care of my parents, finally becoming sole caregiver of Mom (she had Alzheimer's).  She died a few years ago, following Dad who had died over a decade earlier.  Now it's just me ... and my strange collection of friends.

Most of my friends want to be shapeshifters ... or half-human ... or anthropomorphs.  Identifying myself as a furry seems such a logical step that it's like... duh ... what took so long?

Erm well to me I was always interested in this stuff since I was a baby, to really I didn’t get a choice to be one. Which is why when people ask that to me in public I just say "I didn't choose the furry life, The furry life chose me." I did spend a long time in denial with the whole thing because I never met anyone else like me so I assumed there was something wrong with me. Until I found the entire fandom out felt like a right donut. I still feel out of place tho.

I also get alot of fur dreams and I day dream alot about them, when I was at school when I got the bus to and from school for 4 years I used to always look out of the window and see myself (in fursona) running with the bus, dodging cars and trees and other things to keep up with the bus, made time fly by every time i get on the bus it takes about 30 mins to get back but to me always felt about 10mins, Trying to talk to me on the bus will get you nothing out of me I was still and quiet as a dead body :)

But yea the answer is, I don't really know what got me into it, you will have to go back in time and ask me when I was very young. But you will probably get a load of nonsense at that age. :P

ohohohoh, Here is something that some of you might enjoy as I finish this off!

I wrote a dream I remember out in a book, if you want you can read what I drempt about, It's weird but quiet amazing actually
