Anthromorphs or Transformation in VR

Recommended Posts

I've been a big fan of Virtual Reality for a long time now, and just recently purchased the Oculus Rift DK2 with intentions of designing games myself.

So here's the question: How big do you think the market would be for a game that features you controlling an Antromorphic body, or that featured the ability to shift into a feral creature?

I think there will at least initially be a market of people interested in immersive first-person VR novelty. Beyond that, of niche interest perhaps. I'd imagine we'll see this repeated often when someone makes a werewolf OR/VR game. :)

I just got my Oculus Rift delivered yesterday and was blown away by some of the demos I found. The only thing that really ruined the experience was being bodiless.

I think the first demo I should create would be to have an anthro creature standing infront of a mirror that would immitate the player's head movements (Anything else requires additional hardware)

There absolutely must be a muzzle infront of the camera to make it worth the effort for me :P

Imagine playing Skyrim with this mod + Oculus Rift.

... Now that I think about it, how much did Oculus Rift cost again?

I actually use a mod similar to that one, called Immersive First Person View.

The Oculus Rift is about $350-400. I had some friends come over and test mine out, and now they want one too, haha.

I wouldn't recommend the current versions for anyone to use as a consumer product. I only bought it because I intend to develop with it.

Just found some interesting tech that would replace the need for gloves for hand tracking:

AKA, being able to move your hands (paws, claws, hooves, w/e) in VR :P

I gotta admit I have held back on the idea of VR but if it;s going to give me first person rendered TF scenes then - yes. I will subscribe to that in a heartbeat just to play around "being" different things.

Didn't Second Life try something VR based and it not go so well for them though?

This is something I've wanted to do for awhile, UE4 would be a great platform for VR transformation stuff.  Sadly one of the major plugins that can be used for it, NeoFur, has been pulled for sale recently.  I think realistic fur simulation would be key to this kind of thing..though stuff like rubber or in-organic TFs would be easier to pull off.

Consider Facerig. They manage to do a sort of AR quite well. A similar setup could be applied in VR...
