Pretty self-descriptive title;

Let's just talk about what movies we've seen as of late, since I feel it's good to balance discussions between mediums from time to time.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 6+/10

Jersey Boys 4/10

No one's been watching any kind of movie?

I watched a movie called "Exam" from Netflix a some time ago. I really liked it, especially how intense some parts were. I would give 8 or 9/10.

Yesterday I saw "Big Hero Six" I don't want to give anything away for those that still wish to see it, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I haven't felt that much emotion toward an animated character in a while. I can't wait until it comes out on Blu Ray!

Looking back at it, the list is a lot smaller than it should be.

I need to watch more movies, next year.

For me that would depend on if anything interesting is playing. I think I might have watched two movies this year, not counting Netflix reruns.

The only movie I've watched recently:

Densha Otoko (Train_Man)

Based on a real-life love story told in the for of an internet thread that was later compiled into a book, a TV series, and this movie. It's a movie that got a very limited release in America, and critics hated it because it used Japanese emoticons and the main character was awkward... which is a dumb review IMO. I myself really enjoyed it. Not to mention it's one of the only movies on Rotten tomatoes with a critic score of 100%. That's RARE.

9/10

I went to go see the Spongebob movie a couple of days ago. It was actually better than I had expected it to be and felt like an episode from before the first movie at times.

Thankfully it didn't revolve them going above water as much as the commercials and title implied.

Then there was a random rap battle during the credits done by the epic rap battle guys. It was kind of out of place but was still pretty good.

I watched Big Hero 6 the other day. 7/10. Good film, good premise, animation was gorgeous and story was good, but it just seemed to go too quickly for me to get any emotional attachment to any of the characters, so when something emotional happened I was just like "meh".

Enjoyable, but not as enjoyable as it could have been.

The Illusionist is quite good: good performances, subtle dialogue. Some of the more astute viewers will be able to figure 'it' out before the big reveal but I think that for most people the answer will elude them, and then it will be intellectually satisfying when everything is explained. You may need to watch it twice.

The Merchant of Venice had poor writing and I don't think even great actors such as Jeremy Irons, Al Pacino and Joseph Fiennes were able to hold up this disastrous mess. Where to begin? The dialogue was clunky and forced. The characterization was poor at best: one character is rather unfortunate and life treats him badly, but then he behaves in the cruelest possible way, earning no sympathy from the audience. On the other hand, a lazy and reckless character who could be described as a 'gold digger' is seemingly favored solely on the merit of his charisma, and receives an unearned happy ending. It's as though the author had a change of heart halfway through writing the story and decided to make the characters be completely different people while forgetting to rewrite them from the beginning.

On a much happier note, Looper is an excellent film. I won't judge it on its accuracy regarding time travel as nobody knows how time travel really works: it has never been achieved. It has a refreshing take on timelines that I had not seen before. Both Bruce Willis and Joseph Gordon-Levitt give wonderful performances, as does Emily Blunt though with an accent that may be unexpected. I can't go into much detail about the story without giving away key details and spoilers so I'll just say that if you enjoy time travel and action, it's well worth watching.

Anyone who is a fan of musicals should see "Into the Woods". It's a Rodger and Hammerstein and it's so... deliciously twisted! I think anyone who likes musicals, fairly tales, or is just a fan of Meryl Streep, would love this movie. :3

I highly reccommend Hitchcock's major filmography for anyone interested in classic cinema.  Finishing a class in his films now:

Rear Window

North by Northwest

Strangers on a Train

The Birds

Rope

Psycho

Vertigo

Also a big fan of Kubrick, so 2001: A Space Odyssey and Clockwork Orange are also advisable.

I don't watch a lot of movies, but recently I watched "Oldboy" (korean version) and it was crazy cool!

Not long after I watched a movie called "It's such a beautiful day" and it turned out to be really great too! I'm pretty sure it's gonna end up in my top 10, not sure yet though.
