A Pome From Me 2: 'the Thread Necromancer Strikes Back!'

1 post in this topic

I appreciate this may have a bit of an annoying tinge to it for Kanibal, so to you I apologise for the shameless resurrection of a topic. The old one got archived just as I was getting around to posting in it again.

I have the following flimsy points to raise in my defence:

1. It's my topic.

2. It contains my songs and poems, which don't spring to mind on a regular schedule

3. I've been ludicrously busy at college last academic year, busy catching up with things I've been meaning to do for four years over the summer, and now am even busier at university. The chances of an increased frequency in my visits to this site and posting here remain very low. This should not, however, be mistaken for a deliberate long term absence or departure.

4. I'm sure you're aware of all the above already by now and so it's probably more of an explanation to newer members of why I seem to be resurrecting a thread whilst they are told off for doing so with other folks' threads.

Anyway, here's the song I had to post.

The working title, somewhat cheesily, is Destiny And Love. I'm grasping around for something more intellectual to call it, feel free to suggest.

[Verse 1]
You know I'm full of imperfection,
Busy and quite distracted;
Our love can seem upon reflection
To have been refracted.
I'm a romantic at heart,
Eccentric through and through.
I love to live for destiny
And my destiny is to love you.
To find the way to fix the world
And hold your hand whilst we do it,
To see our future being unfurled
And to boldly jump into it!

[bridge]
The truth is, my love, there can be no destiny
Without you and me being together as far as I can see.
Your eyes have that spark, even in the daily grind;
Though the way seems dark, trust me we'll be fine.

[Chorus 1]
Destiny and love needn't be exclusive -
I'm sure you can see the need to quell the yearning
Both to reach for a goal, no matter how seclusive
And to love you until and beyond it without your earning.

[Verse 2]
I wish that I knew how to put your mind to rest
Without seeming desparate,
That you knew I love you more whilst on my quest
And we've yet to get to the best bit!
Your mind may not be in the mood for this
And with all you do I will sympathise;
The mundane's more amazing, like a simple kiss,
Than anything we would dare fantasise.
The ability and agility of mind and body and faith
To hold down a job in this world and cope
Is every bit as important to the good and brave
As to stand proud with courage and hope.

[bridge]
The truth is, my love, there can be no destiny
Without you and me being together as far as I can see.
Your eyes have that spark, even in the daily grind;
Though the way seems dark, trust me we'll be fine.

[Chorus 2]
Destiny and love needn't be exclusive -
I'm sure you can see the need to quell the yearning
Both to reach for a hope, no matter how reclusive
And to love you until and beyond it without your earning.

[Verse 3]
You qualify and pass with flying colours,
The tests of the schools of hard knocks,
Of zeal and living life even fuller,
Of avoiding its hard places and rocks.
I see you doing your best come what may,
You have patience beyond compare!
I can only hope that maybe one day,
You'll see that like you I care.
I care for you and care for your love,
I care for the world around you,
I care that when push comes to shove,
Freedom and truth will surround you!

[bridge]
The truth is, my love, there can be no destiny
Without you and me being together as far as I can see.
Your eyes have that spark, even in the daily grind;
Though the way seems dark, trust me we'll be fine.

[Chorus 3]
Destiny and love needn't be exclusive -
I'm sure you can see the need to quell the yearning
Both to reach for a freedom, no matter how delusive
And to love you until and beyond it without your earning.

[Verse 4]
I care that people are happy,
I know we're all good inside
And that evil happens when understanding is gappy,
Not innately but developed on the ride -
And I know it won't all go away,
Whilst people exist it will be a condition,
But to show love and trust is the way
Is our constructive mission;
Not at the expense of love,
Not at the detriment of you,
Not a reason to pray to the above
For salvation from the queue.

[bridge]
The truth is, my love, there can be no destiny
Without you and me being together as far as I can see.
Your eyes have that spark, even in the daily grind;
Though the way seems dark, trust me we'll be fine.

[Chorus 4]
Destiny and love needn't be exclusive -
I'm sure you can see the need to quell the yearning
Both to reach for a truth, no matter how elusive
And to love you until and beyond it without your earning.

[Verse 5]
We shall walk together, hand in hand
Towards what we can do.
Everyone has a part to play
For destinies to come true.
Some people do it on their own,
But their hearts can be diverted;
They start in the right direction
But their courses get perverted
By the outdated evils of money,
Of jealousy and greed,
Such pity they are the ones in charge,
The ones who are in most need.

[bridge]
The truth is, my love, there can be no destiny
Without you and me being together as far as I can see.
Your eyes have that spark, even in the daily grind;
Though the way seems dark, trust me we'll be fine.

[Chorus 5]
Destiny and love needn't be exclusive -
I'm sure you can see the need to quell the yearning
Both to reach a bitter end, no matter how conclusive
And to love you until and beyond it without your earning.

[Conclusion]
We don't need power, fame or blame,
We don't need money or stuff,
We only need each other,
It's so wonderful to say that's enough.

[Verse 1 repeat]
You know I'm full of imperfection,
Busy and quite distracted;
Our love can seem upon reflection
To have been refracted.
I'm a romantic at heart,
Eccentric through and through.
I love to live for destiny
And my destiny is to love you.
To find the way to fix the world
And hold your hand whilst we do it,
To see our future being unfurled
And to boldly jump into it!

[Conclusion repeat]
We don't need power, fame or blame,
We don't need money or stuff,
We only need each other,
It's so wonderful to say that's enough.
