Another 7 months, another 6 chapters. This is not a pattern I will repeat. Why? My awesome other half has laid down the CHALLENGE of completing the REST OF THIS BOOK for Christmas. So, assuming I somehow don't die from lack of sleep, I could be publishing in 2012. Somehow fitting, that.

DeviantArt now features a built-in PDF viewer. FurAffinity now features ODT support. Sweet. 8-)

One complete novel, 185,000+ words on 360 pages of A4.

With the mother of all inventions to share with the world and surrounded by strange coincidences, Steven Dhai finds himself in the midst of a wide-ranging revolution, where we all must learn what truly makes us who we are. For there is no point in going back now, having come so far...

This is the first book in what I intend to be a trilogy - although that may condense into two books if the third can't be justified.

Started in July 2008, uploaded every 6 chapters to keep it fresh and to keep lots of pairs of eyes scouring it for errors, finished Christmas Eve 2011.

I would like to get this book published, but before I can embark on that particular sub-quest, I must first submit the manuscript for your perusal once more. What do you think of the last 7 chapters? What do you think of the book overall? If there are any glaring errors, please point them out. Any spelling mistakes, likewise. Some things in this story deliberately don't make sense yet, because real life doesn't wrap itself up into a neat ball of sense in novel-sized chunks, and so why should this story?

Your foxyfluff,

Danfox Davies

P.S. I'm looking for cover art. Anyone want to draw it?

New blurb:

The Geneticiser is an Open Source Hardware project pulled together by Steven Dhai. Its purpose is to replace the genetic code in a living being with a modified version of that code and implement the changes without said being even losing consciousness.

The fact that that could mean people who identify themselves with certain animal species or characters can potentially become their fantasies is completely beside the point, of course.

The fact that the project's creator is, himself, one of these people, a 'furry' is likewise coincidental.

If you want to believe that.

I mean, come on, the Geneticiser can be used for medical purposes too, but this is just too good an opportunity to miss.

And who knows what awesome things can happen now thanks to this? But remember, An Atom Of Freedom can make all the difference between an amazing invention and a tool of oppression. Kind of like with the internet.

Reality, of course, had both outcomes in store for the internet. How about the Geneticiser? Let's find out...

I'd also like to invite you to submit your attempts at cracking the code puzzle at the end of the book by way of Note on here, UKFur, Facebook, DA or FA.

What??!

Please elaborate, it's hard to glean from this whether you've read the book or are just responding to this thread.

Yes. It may take a while to solve.

A small sample? In order to decode any of it, you'd have to decode all of it using the code you used...

News/update/thing: I now have a cover to put on the book when it gets published. Publication is still waiting for proof readers to provide feedback.

an_atom_of_freedom_book_cover_by_dsdfox-d4s4pph.png

Having combined images made by Esqui and ImmortalDragon with images I drew, I am now thinking this looks somewhat like a book cover, albeit a little too landscape. It could always be inset and framed.

I will use this image with the PDFs of An Atom Of Freedom once proof reading results come through and I have applied any required edits.

Here's a question for you: when I get this book published, would you buy a paid-for paper or download copy if you knew that profits were going to be channeled at least in a large percentage if not entirely towards genetic research?

And would you if you knew said genetic research would be into the possibility of real anthro furry transformation?

How many more or fewer of you would buy it if the profits were directed towards The Fox Project (a fox welfare charity in England)?

And what if the profits were split between the above two options?

If it ends up on paper, I'll be willing to pay $50 to $75 for it, and it would be for getting a real life fox transformation researched so it can happen.

I've now submitted An Atom Of Freedom to a furry publisher, let's see what they're like. They say it can take 6 months to a year for them to sort it out. I hope that's a longest-time estimate. Then again, previous experience with other furry organisations...

There is now a donation button at www.vulpinedesigns.co.uk and when the book comes out for publication, some proceeds from it should head in the direction of such projects.

Whilst the furry publisher ponders paperback publication, I have released the hardback version myself via Lulu:

http://www.lulu.com/...ht/DanFoxDavies

£26.00 to buy online. I'll also be selling signed copies in person for a slightly higher price to cover additional costs. I hope you deem it worthwhile, and I might remind you that a large proportion of profits will be invested in Vulpine Designs Unlimited.

http://vulpinedesigns.co.uk/site/?page_id=273 is the website for An Atom Of Freedom.

Said book signing was cancelled due to rapidly changing circumstances last year. It didn't get advertised much either in the end, so no big deal. Copies were sold at ScotiaCon 2012 and it remains available at Lulu.com, now in Hardback, Paperback and eBook PDF. There's also the free download for those of you unsure or short of cash - but I obviously encourage purchase if you believe it is worth buying.

I have now started my second book and will make a new thread to tidy things up.
