im simply asking what your purposes are for being in the fandom, is it just for the art, for the friends, spiritual connections to your fursona,or are you just some pervert looking for some cheap thrills. whatever your reasoning is for being in the fandom come here and talk about it among others.

my reasons for being in the fandom is a mixture of the following

1.creative insparation, being that everything creative i have done has pretty much been furry.

2.friendships and acceptiveness, almost every fur is understanding and compassionate towards each other making it very easy to find friends

3. i have always felt an almost spiritual connection to foxes and as such followed through to show how i felt on the inside

Wasn't there a topic like this before? Can't find it now, but I'm almost certain there was one...

I think it's all about having some fun in a slightly different way with like-minded people. Ultimately, unless you're really weird...so most of you then, there's no real harm to be done.

My literal definition of "being a furry" is this:

Furry: a person who has a strong interest in anthro animals, pursues it as a hobby to some extent, and is open about this interest online or in real life.

On the other hand, what furry means to me: Furry is one of my greatest ways to express myself. My character(s) and the ability to express the thoughts and stories and emotions in my head through them and art of them are very valuable to me. Furthermore, the community can be a great place! I've met a lot of good friends through the fandom.

  1. I started out as a furry because of the art. I look up some fan art for pokemon and digimon and it went from there. Mind you it was clean art then.
  2. Later I started to get more into the fandom and the "cheap trills".
  3. Now I am looking more at the fandom side of it and trying to find some friends.
  4. There has always been a spiritual connection for me. I have always been drawn to dragon and felines. I always found it odd when a dog would react to me the exact same way he would a cat. However that dog reacts to cats. There is one dog where i work that has a habit of licking cats and every time he sees me he starts licking me. Some dogs bark like crazy and want to attack or chase me, other want to play or seem not to care.
  5. Whenever a dog shows signs of attack of chase, my friends have said I seem to almost shift my aura and seem to power, both mental and physical, that almost demans attention and respect.

While the term "furry" technically means personified animals, it tends to apply more to those who have an interest in anthromorphic animals.

While I know this isn't exactly supposed to relate to rule 34 and bestiality, that is most often what I find myself running into.

However, I also don't know what the actual furry community is like, so I will not be one to judge until I know exactly how things work.

I figure your only a furry if you like to describe yourself as one, plenty of people draw anthro or semi-anthro characters that have no affiliation with anything furry related other than their art.

When I draw, I prefer anthro characters because it's easier to show a wide range of differences between characters, when you only draw humans I feel you have to subtly change your art from character to character to get a wide range of different personalities.

I became furry long time ago, when one of furries had found me on forum about lucid dreaming. I didn't know what furry is, he presented me those world. I loved those so much, because in those times I wasn't in good psychicall condition. Furry was a way to escape from grey reality. But during years my psychicall condition was going to be better and better because of many things like for example moving from my hometown to Warsaw.

Because I discovered fandom of Bronies, Furry let down to 2nd place. And I've noticed that my contact with a lot of furries became weaker. So now Furry for me is mainly art, sometimes amazing stories connected with TF's or some kind of expansions and meetings from time to time.

Some years ago I believed that fursona is something like real vision of our soul. So I believed that inside me is a female cowgirl and I was so bad at me because I couldn't be a girl never xP But as I said - my psychicall condition went better, so somewhere near last september I decided to make Lindsay just mine OC, not fursona.

It started out as an appreciation for the art and, yes, the porn. Over time, as I grew into it, it became something a lot more personal and intimate, and now it's a comfortable part of my relationship, etc. I like it. :)

Hmm...unfortunately, I think I'm a bit of a stereotype for this (in a bad way). I'd say about 80% of what I think makes me personally a furry is that I enjoy the more erotic side of it, particularly transformation. The other 20% is personal identity: I often think of myself as my fursona, or would like to become it one day. Or perhaps it might be closer to 70% and 30% now, since I've found that I'm more comfortable talking to people in the furry community than to people I know in real life, and having found a mate who IS a furry I've realized that it must be quite hard to be with someone who isn't in the furry community, there'd be quite a few things that would just...well, we wouldn't understand about each other.

However, being a furry is such an individual thing, it's quite difficult to have a single definition because each person experiences it in a different way. Perhaps a general definition would be something along the lines of "a person who takes interest in anthropomorphic animals" which leaves many things undefined...but at least it doesn't rule out different ways of being a furry.

I was brought to furry through the TF aspect but it represents to me an aesthetic that bridges the gap with my emotional connection to wolves and the physicality of the human body. As for the fandom itself, aside from the rather more obnoxious and overt parts of the fandom, in it I have found some of the kindest and most open-minded people around.

For me, furry is just a way to have fun. I like the art, the furs out there who are usually friendly, and I have even made a pack with my friends. (Wolves foxes and me as the one kitsune)

What being a fur means to me is that I can fully express myself through something I really like, animals. Being a furry to me is meeting tons of people with the same interest, the very interesting art, and of course, having fun. The best part is I can mold myself into an animal (wolf) and create a fursona which I can be.

To me being a furry is being who and what I want to be in life rather than what I am. It lets me live and experience things I couldn't normally do, and interacting with others in a way I feel is the real me.

To me, it's a combination of being a part of a group of like-minded people and not having to worry about being judged just because you feel a special connection to an animal(s)

To me it's an expression of ones self, it's an appreciation for that expression from others and it's a community of individuals who have expressed their openness and non judgemental state to new ideas.

Being furry is about topic bumps :)

Seems true, and it's getting a tiny bit tiring too with these non-topic threads.
